AV3 AEROVISUAL IN INTERVIEW WITH THE IEEE OF THE UAQ

We had the pleasure of being invited by the alumni from the student branch of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers of the Faculty of Engineering of the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro, to a very complete interview with the area of Dissemination of Science and Innovation of this Faculty, where we talked about our company, the implementation of unmanned aircraft in different sectors, and especially about the fpv and racing drones.

Pedro Olivares Sáinz, Executive Director of AV3 AEROVISUAL, accompanied by Rafael Castillo and Mario Padilla, both pilots of Arcana, our FPV team, shared with Alejando Mellado, President of the IEEE Student Branch of the Faculty of Engineering of the UAQ, everything related to the equipment we use, how the technology works, its applications and scope.

During his participation, Mario Padilla explained the types of drones that exist within the FPV category, ranging from micro, mini and even racing drones, as well as the parts that compose them. All these models, most of which can be assembled and programmed to the user’s liking, are flown with goggles that allow the pilot to see and modify the flight path in first person, thereby generating a completely immersive experience. It is worth mentioning that unlike the more commercial drones or those used in sectors such as industry or research, FPV drones require the pilot to be injecting energy to the engines at all times to keep the unit in the air, in addition, the camera in FPV drones is fixed, which makes their flight even more difficult and, in a certain way, exciting.

For his part, Rafael Castillo spoke about the essential equipment parts required to start flying FPV drones, as well as the importance of knowing basic principles about electrical circuits since much of this discipline requires that the pilot has skills, knowledge and the right tools to maintain their equipment. Additionally, Rafael Castillo shared with the audience different options or kits for those who wish to engage in this sport without having to make such a high investment, although their quality may be lower than a professional equipment, it allows the user to determine if it is really an activity in which it is worth to start investing more money.

At the beginning of his participation, Pedro Olivares spoke about the meaning of the word drone, which although in Spanish is already accepted to be written without the “e”, its original acronym in English means Dynamic Remotely Operated Navigation Equipment. On the other hand, he highlighted all the skills that a person can develop when entering this hobby in addition to piloting, since being part of this world requires knowledge of electronics and computer science, that although they are basic aspects, are sufficient to awaken in any individual an interest in wanting to develop in any of these disciplines.

In addition and as part of his presentation, the CEO of AV3 AEROVISUAL, spoke about the implementation of commercial or enterprise drones to offer services to the industry. In this sense, he spoke about our three service areas; Inspections and Industrial Solutions, Geophysics and Exploration, and Precision Agriculture; where the possibilities are many and the benefits for the different sectors even more, not only from the perspective of efficiency and innovation, but also as a tool that can help to acquire valuable information that otherwise would take a long time to obtain, as well as to reduce many of the risks that people who perform maintenance and safety tasks have to face.

At the end of the interview, Pedro, Mario and Rafael made an exhibition with FPV drones inside the facilities of the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro, where they explained in detail and live, the way these devices operate and of course, their flight potential, which is characterized by being agile, evade obstacles and reach high speeds in a short time.

We thank Alejandro Mellado, as well as the team of Science and Innovation Dissemination of the Faculty of Engineering of the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro for the invitation to share with the university community a bit of what we do and especially our passion for FPV drones.
